Guidelines for Community Organizations

Below are the guidelines and procedures for working with SJI Service Scholarship (SJI SS) volunteers:

  • Students cannot be paid, compensated or receive any class credit for their SJI SS volunteer activities
  • Plays, concerts, yearbook, Pony Club, 4-H, dancing and other school club and performance activities are not eligible for volunteer hours
  • Students must have an adult supervisor present when volunteering
  • For SJI SS volunteering hours to be valid, the student must be working for an accredited non-profit organization ( *.org status) or the activity must be pre-approved by the SJI Service Scholarship Board of Directors
  • Volunteering opportunities must benefit the goal of the non-profit organization and take place on San Juan Island.
  • Students will need an adult or supervisor (not their parent) to sign their Student Record of Volunteer Activity form (aka Log Sheet) once they have completed their volunteer work.
  • No more than 8 hours credit are allowed in any 24 hour period.
  • Each day or event must be logged separately and signed off by the adult who supervised the activity.
  • If you have any questions about SJI Service Scholarship, please click to email one of our Board of Directors:
